Posted by Getting thin and holey on 27th May 2012
For years and years, the Windsor wool, mid-calf was available everywhere. It has been off the market for too long now. Mine are wearing out. I hope Gold Toe taps this market. They were the best at it, and a good price.

Ok, so glad to know I wasn't going crazy -
My husband has worn these socks 25 years. Always consistent in quality. They are his only dress socks he will wear. He prefers the dark Charcoal and Brown - they are the best shades of each.
Searched for them at several stores, and the Charcoal was lighter in color, thus gave up and bought him several pairs of black. BUT..., he said they are TIGHT AND ITCHY and UNCOMFORTABLE to wear, particularly after they were washed. Actually, I noticed they washed up a little differently, too, looking a little more fluffy. I also remember the label said "antimicrobial" on them. Whats up?
He got so frustrated, my hubby dug up his older holey ones and is wearing those.
Please help. I came on in search for the original much loved socks.
Thanks so much!

WW's are all that I wear. I still have a few brown's left but they are just hanging on. I am so glad you are bringing these back!

The brown windsor is the best. I have been looking for new but now that I see they are coming back in the fall of 2012 I will wait.

I, also, have been looking for the colors I've bought through the years, esp. brown and grey. Man cannot live by black alone.

I've been looking for brown windsors over the calves for a couple of years myself and to no avail. Also glad to see someone is it too. Hopefull Gold Toe will start producing them besides black..

Hi Joel - If you check back, I've done some digging and the Over the Calf Windsor Wool (1446H) ribbing at the top is 4" wide. If you have a 2" wide ribbing, that is the crew sock (1446S). The specs haven't changed. If you're seeing something different, please send us an email at customercare@goldtoemoretz.com and we'll look into the issue specifically.
Dick G. - I've submitted the request to get the 1446M length back. No word on that.

I have several pairs of Windsor wool socks, some with a 2 inch ribbing and some with a 4 inch ribbing. The 4 inch ribbing holds up great. The 2 inch loses its elastic after a few times through the wash.
How do I tell which is which?
I've looked at numerous stores and can't find them anymore in any color (jus the 2 inch tops). The websites barely show the top at all (and it looks like the ribbing is stretched over a form, so I'm not sure if some is hidden.)
